Children need opportunities to explore their environments, manipulate things, and develop the motor skills that support brain development. More importantly, exploring without an overabundance of critique and structure. Hands-on learning in an unstructured way is a necessity to developing creativity, problem solving skills, and learn boundaries. Research has shown that academic readiness develops from encouraging kids to play in a range of environments, specifically unsupervised, unstructured, unplanned play with opportunities to physically explore and self-direct.
