Frequently Asked
Questions
FAQs:
Who is this excursion designed for?
This excursion is great for anyone interested in exploring and learning more about Tampa Bay and its wildlife. We strongly recommend that all participants can swim.
Is there an age requirement?
This program is open to anyone 5 years and older. All children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Where does the boat go?
The eco-vessel anchors along the extensive sandbar system that runs along St. Petersburg in Tampa Bay. Typically, the snorkeling area will include a mix of sand and seagrass.
What kind of snorkeling experience is needed?
None! The Tampa Bay Watch crew is happy to teach you how to snorkel.
Does TBW provide gear? What is it?
Yes, we provide masks and snorkels. You are welcome to bring your own snorkel gear if you feel more comfortable using it. We also have inflatable snorkel vests available to help you float along the surface. We do not provide water shoes and they are highly recommended.
What might we find in the water?
Explorers will see a variety of fishes that inhabit the seagrass. Most are small species or babies, as Tampa Bay is a nursery habitat.
Your guides will help you find several invertebrates, including sea stars, hermit crabs, marine snails, and more!
Does everyone have to snorkel?
No. Guests are welcome to hang out on the eco-vessel or simply walk or float through the snorkel area. Most of the area should be shallow enough to stand up.
Can we bring drinks and snacks?
Food and beverages are welcome on the eco-vessel, and water in an eco-friendly, reusable container is highly recommended. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed.
Coolers are also allowed.
Are drinks and snacks sold on the boat?
No.
Is there a bathroom on the boat?
Yes.
Is there shade on the boat?
Yes. About 85% of the boat is covered.
How early should we arrive and is there parking?
We recommend you arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the tour’s departure. At peak times it can take up to 30 minutes to find parking and walk to the boat slip. There are paid parking lots on the Pier and metered parking on nearby streets.
